The seemingly small but in reality big difference is that Pro language school teaches Thai with transliteration and Walen does not.
Simply put, transliteration is a process in which words in one alphabet are represented in another alphabet. Different cultures around the world use different scripts and alphabets to represent their languages.
In my humble opinion and by experience transliteration is great if you want to pick up a word here and there or you want to learn some useful Thai phrases but if you are serious about learning the Thai language you may want to learn the Thai script and alphabet.
Transliteration is like training wheels. The sooner you take them off the sooner you will be able to ride the bicycle without them.
The biggest advantage is that if you put in the extra effort you will not only learn how to speak Thai but you will be able to write and read Thai as well!
A transliteration system can assist you with pronunciation while you are learning the Thai alphabet.
Having someone (a teacher assist) assist you with your pronunciation and correct you is especially important in the early stages of learning the Thai language.
What makes learning the Thai language so attractive and why does the Thai language grow increasingly important?
Besides Thailand being an exotic paradise and a favorite vacation destination for people from all over the world, Thailand also has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Learning Thai is not easy for a foreigner but the rewards are all yours.
Another reason why many foreigners do a 12 months 180 hours Thai language course at one of the Thai language schools in Pattaya is that they (the students) can apply for an ED visa.
The school will submit the necessary paperwork for you with the Ministry of Education.
The student will then have to leave the country and apply for the ED visa outside Thailand's borders (most students go to Vientiane, Laos) with the paperwork.
The cost of the ED visa is 2000 Baht by the time of this writing plus you have the travel expenses and the 3 times 90 day extensions plus other requirements.
Most schools if not all of them, conveniently forget to tell their prospective students about the additional costs and requirements.
Learn to speak the Thai language next time at one of the Thai language schools in Pattaya, Thailand. How do you find out which school is for you?
Visit the schools and sit in for an hour or two. See which one you like better. Meet the teachers and talk to other students.
